It must be remembered that the purpose of education is not to fill the minds of students with facts... it is to teach them to think, if that is possible, and always to think for themselves.

'Romeo and Juliet' Quotes.

"No sir, I do not bite my thumb at you, sir, but I bite my thumb, sir."
-Sampson, page 9.

My thoughts: I love this quote because it shows some of the humor from Elizabethan times. I like how he is insulting, yet how it sounds so funny. This is one of my favorite quotes by far!

"O noble prince, I can discover all. The unlucky manage of this fatal brawl. There lies the man, slain by young Romeo, That slew thy kinsman, brave Mercutio."
-Benvolio, page 125.

My thoughts: I like this quote because Benvolio is speaking to the Prince nobally even though he just saw someone get killed. He spoke with respect and didn't disrespect anybody. This just showed how their moral codes were in those times.

"Will you speak well of him that killed your cousin?
-Nurse, page 135.

My thoughts: This is a good quote, because it really tests Juliet's faithfullness to her cousin and her husband. It makes you wonder what she will say and whose side she will chose to take. I like this quote because of how well thought out it was, and the point it makes.

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other word would smell as sweet."
-Juliet, page 69.

My thoughts: I like this quote a lot because it shows Juliet's love for Romeo. She doesn't want his last name to be Montague so she can marry him and be able to love him the way people are meant to love. This shows her heartache to be with him.
