It must be remembered that the purpose of education is not to fill the minds of students with facts... it is to teach them to think, if that is possible, and always to think for themselves.

'The Odyssey' Quotes.

"So I no longer believe any rumours whatever their source, nor have I any use for the skill of such diviners as my mother may call in consultation."
-Telemachus, page 13.

My thoughts: I like this quote, because of its truth. Once you have been lied to and heard too many rumors, you can't believe anything anyone says anymore. This holds true to today as well.

"For he too must be a worshiper of the immortal gods of whom all men stand in need."
-Peisistratus, page 28.

My thoughts: I like this quote because even though Peisistratus holds some heroics to him, he still shows he relies on someone. It shows that even the strongest of people are still dependent on others. I think that this is a very important point to be known.

"For if ever a man was born to suffer, it was he."
-Telemachus, page 49.

My thoughts: This is a good quote because it shows that Telemachus is still loyal to his father. By saying this, he meant that his father could suffer and survive through the fittest. This is a very meaningful quote to me.

"Oh, how I hate their pursuit of me and the way they swarm around!"
-Penelope, page 58.

My thoughts: I like this quote because this shows that Penelope is still very true to her husband. She shows that just because she has over 100 handsome men, she can still be loyal to Odysseus and not have lust. I think this is great because some people can't even control their lust with one person, let alone 100!
